What if it happened to Nana Patole? As the state president of the Congress, his job is to deal with the opposition, including the BJP. This battle should become more intense when the power in the state is lost. Naturally, Nana’s initiative is expected in it. He is nowhere to be seen. On the contrary, in the recent past, many people began to suspect that he started fighting against the party leaders themselves. Congress needs at least a state president who can take everyone along. Manikrao Thackeray is a good example. What they did at the organizational level is still a matter of research. But she managed to stay in this position for a long time only because of her ability to ‘get along with everyone’. Not only did the Patolas fail to do this, but the level of work was different. As far as Vidarbha is concerned, no big leader is with them. What’s more, even the MLA from his home district is not with him. Organizational building was possible with the help of all these. His aggressive politics helped. It was easy during the time of power. Nana never got it.
He remained confident that he could grow the party on his own. Where did Nana’s ‘overconfidence’ come from when the environment was so unfavorable for party growth? He wants to be Chief Minister. It is a good thing to have such hope. If that happens, it will be the glory of Vidarbha. But is this really possible on your own? How can a Manisha like Nana keep up with the old leaders of the party without being with them? Don’t they realize that it will take everyone’s support for this, only the approval of the party elite will not work? Gone are the days when Shresthis chose the Chief Minister. Does the fact that the state of the party has not remained the same come to their attention? There is nothing wrong with having such a goal, but how can it be justified to carry out a program of emasculation of others? The example in this regard is also very recent. Before the state government left, two incidents happened. Congress split three votes in the legislative assembly election itself. Later, eleven MLAs of the party remained absent during the trust vote. Both these incidents are so serious. Three of those opinions are too much to split. All these three votes were from Vidarbha. Everyone also knows which MLA-cum-contractor cheated him. One of them is very close to Nana. It was never seen that Nana insisted that action should be taken against these three.
The fact that the party’s Dalit candidate was defeated due to the reversal of these three is more important for the Congress. Still Nana is quiet on this. They complained to the nobles and raised the issue of reputation, if not the time of the vote of confidence. Because Ashok Chavan, Vijay Wadettiwar, big leaders are involved in it. Shresthi also immediately appointed a committee to investigate this. All of them repeatedly clarified that this absence from the resolution time was just an accident, not a deliberate act and they would not leave the party. Still, the business of growing rumors about him that would go to the BJP started from Nana’s camp. Distressed by this, these leaders sat together in Mumbai and discussed a lot. He was attended by all the ex-ministers of Vidarbha and Balasaheb Thorat. Finally it was decided not to set foot in Delhi unless summoned by Shresthi and to face the inquiry. The old leader was deeply hurt by all this. In the current situation, many may be under pressure from the BJP to leave the party. Sometimes this is done out of fear of action and sometimes out of greed for position. What should Nana’s job be in such a situation? Believing anyone with such an offer, encouraging them not to panic and trying to keep the party going. He did not appear to undertake this work. On the other hand, all of them got a twali like Changumangu. Anyway, all these leaders are old acquaintances in the party. He never changed party like Nana. If a head of state like Nana is not ready to think about whether the party will grow or it will fall further by making various interpretations of his mistake, how can the future of the party be considered bright?
What is the reason to be under the illusion that only the Gandhi family and Nana will remain? The present time is difficult for the party. In such a case, not only Congress but all Mahavikas Aghadi need to unite and fight against BJP. At that level too, Nana seems to have failed. He did not get along with the NCP when he was in power. By directly criticizing Pawar, he caused unnecessary controversy. He was not very friendly with the army. Therefore, after resigning from the post of Assembly Speaker, the new Speaker could not be decided for a long time. Opponents took advantage of it. If Nana had been the president, the picture would have been different today. Perhaps the coalition government would have survived, but then Nana was in a hurry to get a ministerial position besides managing the party. He got the shaft but the ministership gave him a shot. Not all dice fall straight in politics. So Nana cannot be blamed entirely for the actions of that time, but in the current situation, the condition of the party can improve only if everyone works together. Common workers who are still in the party are aware of this. When will it happen to Nana and the kampula formed around them? Since assuming the post of president, Nana started efforts to form his own group in each district. Wardha, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal, Bhandara, Gondia are several examples. This special Congress method. When the party had the support of the common people, it was exhausted. Now it’s time to get dehydrated. In such a case, when the question of where the water will come from in the ‘river’ is troubling everyone, who will explain to Nana that it is not possible to reach a consensus by organizing factional meetings? Without falling into the trap of group formation, taking decisions by listening to everyone, being easily accessible, most importantly, being constantly ‘visible’, finding the faults of the opposition and following only the independent parties, it does not need any prophet to tell that the condition of the Congress will be worse. At least considering the failure of Bhandara-Gondia, Nana needs to change his working style. They can easily do this if aggressive politics is joined with consensus. Will they make this change?
